Claire Clayton Hansen came into this world in 1912 and left this world in 2012. As a 94 year resident of the Moses Lake area, he passed away peacefully with family members by his side. Claire was born on May 8, 1912 in Olema, Washington (Okanogan Co.) to Thomas and Ida Hansen. The family moved to Moses Lake (then Neppel) in 1917. Claire was the third of seven siblings and the last survivor. The family homesteaded in Mae Valley in 1925 where they farmed and raised livestock. Claire graduated from Neppel High School in 1929 in a class of four.

On December 10th 1934 he married Janet N. Ceis, the daughter of Floyd and Elizabeth Ceis. While hauling spuds to Seattle they stopped in

Ellensburg and tied the knot. Claire worked on the family farm and was employed by the Grant County Road Department until 1940. At the start of WWII Claire and his family moved to Seattle and worked at Todd Shipyards as a welder and materials expediter. In 1945 he moved his family back to Moses Lake and farmed in Mae Valley with his brother Frank until the late 1950's. In the 1960's he worked in Alaska and Montana as a superintendent on missile sites and the federal building in Juneau after which he was a fireman for Grant County 5 Fire Dept. until his retirement in 1976.

Claire became blind in 1990 but lived life to the fullest in-spite of it. His wife, family,  grand kids and great grand kids were the center of his world. Claire was noted for his sharp mind and a keen wit. One could always count on his help and advice whether they wanted it or not. He was one of the founding members of the Moses Lake Rodeo Association. He helped organize the Mae Valley Volunteer Fire Dept in 1949.

Survivors include sons: Armand & wife Echo of Spokane, Mick & wife Chris of Moses Lake, Greg & wife Shirley of Moses Lake, Bill & wife Paula of Spokane, Richard & wife Robin of Moses Lake, Roger & wife Marcia of Moses Lake and a close cousin, Alice Neil, of Mesa Arizona.
