WARDEN - This Christmas 75 kids got new bikes.

"Actually, 78," said Warden High School teacher Calah Kulm.

OK, 78 Warden kids received new bikes for Christmas, thanks to the local chapter of the International Plumbers and Steamfitters union.

The union has charitable projects in the towns where it has locals, and the regional headquarters in Pasco was working on a bicycle giveaway. Organizers asked around Warden, looking for someone who could supervise the project in Warden. Kulm was recommended by the mom of one her National Honor Society students.

"They said, 'you can have 50 bikes,' so I said,' hey, do you have 75?'" she said. In fact the union's representative, Danny Larsen, said they did have 75 bikes, and came up with three more when Kulm asked for them, she said.

The bikes came in two sizes, with one color scheme for girls and another for boys. "It's so awesome. We made a lot of families happy," Kulm said.
