Moses Lake swim team beats Eastmont
EAST WENATCHEE - The Chiefs left a lump of coal in the Wildcats stocking in their last meet before the Christmas break, as they dealt Eastmont a lopsided 142-32 home loss Dec. 20.
The win improves Moses Lake to 5-0 in the Big Nine Conference and puts the swim team alone at the top of the standings at the mid-point of the season.
"We asked JV swimmers to step up and swim in about half of the varsity events at this meet, and they came through with mostly personal best times," coach Tony St. Onge said. "We will be working harder than ever especially through the Christmas break to achieve the goals we have set for the second half of the season so will be cranking out the miles."
The Chiefs received virtually no competition from the Wildcats as Moses Lake took first place in all but one event.
The initial race of the meet saw the 200 Medley Relay team of Kaelan Connacher, Nick Osborne, Brenden Eslick, and Ben Breaky take top honors in Heat A with a time of 1:50.83.
Chris Vidrine, Jacob Price, Troy Boorman and Logan Osborne took second in Heat B finishing at 2:02.15. It was a clean sweep for Moses Lake in the 200 Freestyle with Zack Johnston (1:53.81) taking the top spot, Madison Molitor (2:09.38) placing second, and Calvin Wytko (2:18.82) finishing third.
Connacher (2:16.33) picked up the win in the 200 Individual Medley, Logan Osborne (2:36.93) took second, and Brian Bateman (2:49.33) placed fourth.
In the 50 Freestyle in was Eslick (23.87) coming in with the top time of the event, Troy Boorman taking second, and Josh Roberts, fourth.
The Chiefs continued their dominance over the Wildcats as Jacob Price placed first in the 1-meter diving event with 133.75 points. Josh Snook placed third, and Garret Widmer took fifth.
It was another sweep for Moses Lake in the 100 Butterfly with Nick Osborne taking first with a time of 1:03.13, Boorman (1:08.98) placing second, and Vidrine (1:16.24) finishing third.
Molitor (59.09) placed first in the 100 Free, Roberts (1:10.40) took third, and Jamie Vela placed fourth with a finish time of 1:10.99.
The 500 Freestyle had Logan Osborne swim past the competition for a first place finish with a time of 6:09.78. Wytko was a close second at 6:19.17. and Caleb Main (7:12.37) placed fourth.
Johnston, Breaky, Moliter and Eslcik finished first the Heat A of the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:39.35.
Second place finishers in Heat B were Mickael Justesen, Roberts, Main and Boorman (1:55.91).
The 100 Backstroke saw the Chiefs take their third clean sweep of the meet with Johnston (1:00.75) finishing first, Justesen (1:18.29) placing second and Vidrine hot on his heels (1:18.36) finishing third.
Nick Osborne (1:13.90) edged out teammate Price (1:13.95) for first in the 100 Breast stroke. Bateman finished fourth at 1:20.36
And in the final events of the day it was Nick Osborne, Moliter, Logan Osborne and Johnston placing first in Heat A of the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:50.59. Wytko, Vela, Bateman and Vidrine (4;29.00) finished third in Heat B to round out the competition for the meet.
Moses Lake is back in the pool to start the second half of league competition when the Chiefs host the Wenatchee Panthers Jan. 8.
