Lions extend streak to six games

MOSES LAKE - Three girls scored in double figures to propel Moses Lake Christian Academy to a lopsided 59-13 home win over the Columbia Basin Secondary School (CBSS) Friday night.
Leading the way for the Lions was Anna Yarbro who recorded a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds. Madison Yamane added 10 points and 5 boards, and Dani Sandberg finished with 10 points and 4 rebounds.
"This was a good game for us to be able to get some younger kids a lot of playing time," coach Bryce McPartland said. " Freshman Emily Roemer (5 points) and 8th grader Kyersten Hunt (6 points) came off the bench and gave us a nice lift."
The Phoenix were at a distinct disadvantage to start the contest as the team only had five players suit up for the game. Things took a real down-turn for CBSS when leading scorer and rebounder Crystal Lloyd fouled out of mid-way though the third quarter of action.
"Crystal is a good athlete," McPartland said. "When she went out, they really struggled."
The win over the Phoenix improves the Lions to 3-0 in Central Washington 1B league play and 6-0 overall. The loss drops CBSS to 1-3 and 3-5 overall.
MLCA is back in action Dec. 27 and 28 when the Lions host their annual Christmas Tournament.
"If we don't have significantly more focus and intensity than we did tonight, any of our upcoming opponents, Warden, Tri-Cities Prep, and Cusick will beat us," McPartland said. "That's something we should certainly take from this game."
The Phoenix are off for the Christmas break, but return to play when Columbia Basin Secondary School hosts Wilson Creek at 6 p.m.
