Bette Lou Slack

| December 25, 2012 5:00 AM

Bette Lou Slack, 94, of Henderson, NV, formerly of Albany, OR, passed away December 7, 2012.

She was born to Millard and Martha Johnston November 29, 1918, and raised in Vancouver, WA.

She was a beautician in her working years-a profession she loved. She became a budding artist at a young age and was still painting in her 80's until her eyesight failed.

She was a beautiful soul, a devoted mother, a gentle, loving sister, a proud grandmother and great-grandmother.

She had a zest for life-always ready to go as she didn't want to miss out on anything! She was a question asker; a knowledge seeker; a lover of books, movies and political debate; a witty conversationalist.

Her family was the light of her life and four generations were richly blessed by her love and devotion.

Bette was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob Slack, brother Doug (Ruth) Johnston; sister Barbara (Dan) Burgoyne; she is survived by daughter Mara Lee "Robin" (Gary) Sherrill; sons Rick (Glenna) Killinger; Shawn Killinger; "like a son" Terry Bedford; sister Priscilla (Ross) Kroessin; grandchildren Adrienne (Dave) Barksdale; Jennifer (Craig) Burr; Camie (Michael) Breier; Chris Killinger; Mike (Stacey) Killinger; Leslie (Kai) Clancy; Joseph (Carrie) Killinger; 18 great-grandchildren; dear aunt to nieces and nephews; treasured friend to so many who knew her.

Our family thanks Solari Hospice Care for their wonderful, compassionate care and the wonderful caregivers at Diamond Retirement Living.

A private gathering will be held in Oregon at a later date. If you choose, donations may be made in her memory to: Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 611 Granite Springs Road, Yorktown, NY 10598 or www.guidingeyes.org.
