Phoenix lose to Shockers

MOSES LAKE - Crystal Lloyd scored 18 points, pulled down 13 rebounds, had four steals and dished out five assists, but it wasn't enough to propel Columbia Basin Secondary School (CBSS) to a win at home over Waterville Saturday.

"We worked on our press breaker this past week preparing for them after playing Waterville in the Wenatchee Toyota Center last year," coach Clint Scriven said. "The ladies play extremely well in the first half beating the Shockers press and getting some great shot opportunities."

Waterville raced out to a 17-9 lead at the end of the first quarter of action, but CBSS came storming back to close the gap to 23-21 at the half.

The Shockers regrouped in the locker room and came out fired up in the third quarter as they put 12 points on the board to the Phoenix 2 to go up 35-23.

CBSS dug down deep and scored 9 points in the final eight minutes of the game, but Waterville tacked on 14 to win the nonleague contest going away.

"Being down by only two at half was a great motivator for the ladies, but coming out after the break they were feeling pretty tired," Scrivens said. "And with no subs available, they were feeling the impact physically. But we still were getting plenty of looks at the hoop and getting shots off. Unfortunately, they were not going in."

Nonetheless, Scrivens was proud of the teams' effort.

"As always, the ladies played hard all game and gave it everything they had," he said. "We'll continue to work on our conditioning and prepare for Easton Tuesday."

The home game against the Jaguars gets underway tonight at 6 p.m.
