Ethyl Marie Greeley

| December 15, 2012 5:00 AM

Ethyl Marie Greeley was born in Seattle, Washington on Queen Anne Hill. She grew up in Issaquah, Washington where in the spring, the children in the neighborhood, usually led by Ethyl Marie, picked trilliums in the woods across from what is now Issaquah Valley Elementary. She always enjoyed playing with her three brothers and many friends.

After the onset of World War II Ethylmarie began working as a telephone operator for the state House of Representatives. She met Warren Greeley who was working in the legislative bill room. They married on February 20, 1942 and Warren was soon sent to Australia with the Army Air Corps. Their son Warren Evan was born the day Mr. Greeley shipped out. Word of their son's birth did not reach him for five months. They were not reunited for another two and a half years. She often reminded her listener that it was usually three to four months between letters from those serving in the war.

After the Greeleys moved to Moses Lake they began a long life of active participation in the Presbyterian church where she sang in the choir and served in many capacities. EMG as she became known, never stopped seeking ways to better her community and the lives of those around her by loving, giving, and serving. Improving education, government, the arts, and community were passions to which she gave many hours. She became friends with many people including state senators and professional musicians.

There are many stories about Ethyl Marie and Warren loving to dance and play golf with their friends. In her late eighties she was seen dancing the "jitterbug" in the back of her church.

Her husband Warren will miss her bright smile and loving attention. She is also survived by their son Warren Evan, her brother Victor, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Their family appreciates the generous care given by all the staff at Moses Lake Senior Living. There are not enough ways to thank the many friends and church family members who have given many hours of love and assistance to the Greeleys.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Ethyl Marie will be held at Moses Lake Presbyterian Church, 1142 W. Ivy on Saturday, December 15 beginning at 2 p.m. The family invites you to join them in a light lunch and fellowship to be held after the service. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, Ethyl Marie could be remembered through gifts to the education scholarship fund at the Presbyterian Church.
