Reader asks for more balanced MLIRD meets

| December 14, 2012 5:00 AM

On the front page of the Dec. 6, 2012 Herald is the article about the land purchase by the directors of the MLIRD. To those friends and directors, past and present, that I am about to offend, I apologize. For several years I have been appalled by the actions of various MLIRD boards.

As any child knows, any group with three in power will probably be a case of two against one. The recent boards operate in this way, and also have made major decisions that affect us all just before any election of a new director. Last time two voted, just before the election, to give substantial raises to several employees, knowing fully that it would not pass after the election. One director made a trip to the state, which was unknown and a surprise to the other two.

Now, we have a surprise major land purchase by two against one, again just before the election.

I have already voted, however, I have very little faith in my vote, as one candidate was an election official for a director and the othr seems favored by the director. I am afraid that we will just elect another "yes man."

I know that the land purchase will eventually mean a super shop and office in the future, which will divert funds away from the lake. I live on the lake , but my land can not be and should not be dredged. So, I am really interested in the rest of the lake that can be saved. Unless we get five to seven directors, we taxpayers will continue to have our tax money wasted and the kind of meetings that are usual.
