Reader supports Skaug for MLIRD board

| December 7, 2012 5:00 AM

There's two new candidates for MLIRD director this year. Ken Kernan, who was Ron Covey's campaign manager, will be in lock step and a rubber stamp for Moses Lake's own power-starved perennial politician, Ron Covey.

The other, David Skaug, is a political newcomer. I have known him and his family for over 45 years and believe he is as honest, hardworking and dedicated to the success of Moses Lake as one can possibly be. They operate several businesses in Moses Lake and are an important part of the core of this town's business community.

The choice should be clear to all voters. Vote Kernan if you want the district's board to return to the following type of policies practiced prior to this year: 1. Illegally raise property taxes to 400 percent of the legal level 2. Illegally assess property owners, not even in the district, over $400,000 in taxes, 3. Illegally have the district pay for the board members personal health insurance premiums to the tune of $34,000 per year, 4. Illegally pay for personal cell phone charges, 5. Legally but irresponsibly pay nearly $100,000 a year for an incompetent manager of a few employees, who wasn't even aware of the lake level dropping, thereby leaving the dredge in the middle of the lake sitting on mud and neglected to drain the huge Pelican Horn transfer pump prior to the winter temperatures freezing and breaking it, which required $100,000 in repair costs. This year, even though not in charge, they stubbornly resist sending tax refunds to those deserving them unless threatened, and continually work behind the backs of those in charge to kill any reform or alternative ideas.

You will vote Skaug if you want a director that will responsibly represent the taxpayer's interests in achieving the highest quality of lake possible!
