Former board member endorses Skaug

| December 7, 2012 5:00 AM

David Skaug called me several weeks ago and asked to come see me for a visit. He was interested in learning more information about the history and past accomplishments of the MLIRD. After talking to him, I was very impressed with his interest and knowledge in the future of our lake and city.

Having been a board member myself for over 25 years (1976-2002), I spent a great deal of time talking with David about the lake, the water quality, and what we had done in the past years. One of our goals in 2002 was to set up and man a mobile home at Connelly Park to help curb the vandalism, and to extend the park hours, mainly for the boaters and the fishermen. At that time, the MLIRD had around $750,000 in reserve with an assessment rate of $.25 per $1,000 of property value, so the money was available at that time for the mobile home to be set up.

I have been very disappointed that in the last 10 years the district has gone from low-keyed, get things done operation, to a very costly government bureaucracy. To me, David Skaug knew his facts and did an outstanding job in presenting them at Wednesday's forum. It is obvious to me that David Skaug will bring strong unity to the board of the MLIRD and will make every dollar count for the good of the MLIRD and the rate-payers.

Please join me in voting for David Skaug on Dec. 11.
