Murder suspect returned to Quincy

| December 2, 2012 5:00 AM

QUINCY - A man wanted by the Quincy Police Department for a murder that occurred more than a year ago is in the Grant County Jail awaiting trial.

Gerardo Valenzuela Navarro, 19, was booked into the jail on Nov. 11. He had been extradited from North Carolina, where he was apprehended in July.

Valenzuela Navarro is one of three suspects in the murder of Ramiro Munoz Jr., who was shot to death in Quincy on Sept. 23, 2011. The other two suspects, Erwin Vazquez, 21, and Eddie Alvarez Hernandez, 22, were arrested on unrelated charges within days of the murder.

According to the Quincy Police Dept., an investigation identified the three suspects as gang members. In April, the QPD said, the Grant County prosecutor issued first-degree murder arrest warrants for all three.

On July 3, Valenzuela Navarro was located by U.S. Marshals in Kinston, N.C., and taken into custody. He was booked into the Lenoir County Jail, where he remained until extradition.

According to the QPD, Valenzuela Navarro fought extradition efforts by Grant County authorities. He was extradited after the issuance of a Washington State governor's warrant.
