Man dies in car crash

MATTAWA - A Mattawa man died on Aug. 13 after his car crashed into an irrigation canal a few miles northeast of town.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office identified the man as Armondo Tomas Tomas, 36, of Mattawa. He was driving a 1986 Honda Accord.
The crash occurred in the 18000 block of Road 23 SW, a gravel road. Apparently, Sheriff's deputies said, Tomas lost control of his vehicle
According to deputies, the Honda left the north side of the roadway. It continued up an embankment and into an irrigation canal.
Grant County Fire District No. 8 and Grant County Search and Rescue were called to assist with the retrieval of the vehicle. It was pulled from the canal, and Tomas was located inside, deceased.
The investigation is on going, the GCSO said. It was unknown as of the 19th whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
