Local area teams facing new opponents in 2012

MOSES LAKE - There has been a lot of movement in the area high school sports scene during the offseason this year as leagues have realigned and teams have moved into different classifications.
The following is a recap of who plays whom this season.
CBBN
Richland, Chiawana and Walla Walla high schools decided to withdrawal from the league this spring, leaving familiar 4A foes Moses Lake, Wenatchee, Eisenhower and Davis in the Columbia Basin Big Nine Conference. Moving up from the 3A classification are Sunnyside and Eastmont from East Wenatchee to round out the league.
CWAC
The Quincy Jacks have moved down a classification and are now a part of the 1A Caribou Trail League. The team will compete with the likes of powerhouses Cashmere and Lake Chelan. Quincy still has long time rival Ephrata on its schedule as a non league contest.
2B North Central Washington Conference
The Warden Cougars have moved down a classification and are now a member of the 1A South Central Athletic Conference (SCAC).
Although they have moved into a smaller division school population-wise, the competition level has not dropped off. In fact, things have gotten more difficult as they now have to contend with Connell Eagles and Royal Knights who have won the state title five times in the last seven years. The Eagles were runner-up in 2006, 2007 and 2010 as well.
Soap Lake is dropping down to 1B and will play 8-man football this year.
The 2012 football season gets underway Aug. 31. Volleyball, girls soccer, girls swim and dive and cross-country starts the first week of September.
