James L. Darby

James L. Darby, 58 of La Conner and Moses Lake, WA passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in Spokane, WA. He was born December 28, 1953 in Mount Vernon, WA to Leo W. and Mary E. (Hall) Darby. Jim graduated from La Conner High School and Skagit Valley College and in 1974 he went to work at the San Juan Cannery as a mechanic. After three years of experience at the Cannery, he began a 35 year career with National Frozen Foods at the Burlington plant. When the Burlington plant closed, he transferred to the Moses Lake plant where he served as a field mechanic, shop mechanic and supervisor, returning to La Conner on weekends. Jim was a charter, and life member of the American Motorcyclists Association; he was also a member of the Ephrata Sportsmen's Association, and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing and black powder shooting competitions. Jim is survived by his sisters, Mary L. Neff (and husband, Tom), Jane A. Chase (and husband, Tim); nephews, David and Levi Chase; and niece, Heidi Chase. A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the La Conner Civic Garden Club, 622 S 2nd St., La Conner, WA. Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home.
