Reader urges reduced speed on Hwy. 2

| August 24, 2012 6:00 AM

Once again there has been a fatal car crash on Highway 2 between Ephrata and Soap Lake. I lived at a mobile home park in that location for over ten years and have seen countless crashes on that highway. Several have resulted in deaths. I myself have nearly been hit on more than one occasion. Lefthand turns on that road are more than hazardous. they are life-threatening. With so many homes on that stretch of highway, why on earth is the speed limit 60 mph?? And why is there no turn center turn lane for the left hand turns the residents must make?? How many more people will die in car crashes that could easily be prevented by lowering the speed limit to 45 mph and creating a center turn lane?? I just don't understand why the speed limit is 60 mph in what is essentially a residential area. I think changes need to be addressed. And not in the future, now before someone else dies needlessly.
