Grant County deputy shoots Moses Lake man

MOSES LAKE - An unidentified man shot by a Grant County Sheriff's deputy Tuesday morning is in "serious but stable condition" at a Spokane hospital today.

Sheriff's deputies were called to a residence at the 9300 block of Viewcrest Drive Southeast at 3:28 a.m. Monday for a domestic violence complaint.

According to sheriff's office spokesman Kyle Foreman, the deputies encountered a man during the incident. A deputy shot the man, Foreman said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Samaritan Healthcare in Moses Lake. He was later transported to a Spokane hospital.

The officer, whose name has also not been released, was not injured. Foreman said there were no other injuries reported at the house.

Per Sheriff Tom Jones' request, the Columbia Basin Investigative Team is investigating the shooting. The team consists of personnel from law enforcement agencies throughout the region.

A search warrant was obtained for the residence, and investigators spent Tuesday processing the scene and conducting interviews.

Moses Lake Police Capt. Dave Sands, who is heading up the investigation, said he doesn't anticipate releasing any further information until today or tomorrow.

"It is our desire to ensure we release completely accurate information, and in order to do this we need time to further investigate the incident," he said.

At that time, the names of the deputy and the subject who was shot may be available.

As of press time, the team plans to continue the investigation through the week, Sands said.

Jones said that, per standard protocol, the deputy was put on administrative leave with pay until the investigation is concluded.
