Reader offers life lessons

Goodness. Yesterday when my husband unlocked the car at 3 p.m., it was 104 degrees inside. A little encouragement for those who say "I can't do this."

When the phrase "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen" doesn't apply, encouragement helps. A year ago, our double oven gave out, and we found a toaster oven at Bargain Town for $8.00. When the radio was coming in fuzzy this morning, problem solved and reception better placed inside the double oven.

Yes, you can smile when you say such things. 1 Thessalonians is all about having a good attitude through thick or thin.

A good example on the radio was late Saturday night, about Corrie Ten Boom of Ravensbruck during the Holocaust. They had symphony orchestras playing on the way to those ovens. And guess what, those poor souls sang when the heat was on!

I'm proud our young people here weren't like the ones on last night's news who made a pyramid stacking picnic tables. A complaint of boredom. There are many things to do to make you a winner, like in the Olympics, so go for the Gold.

Training for any event is hard work; be it body, mind or spirit.

Don't forget that those older and over you have been around the block a few times, especially when they come up with yet another brilliant idea on how to cope.

You may learn something! An earful may be better than a mouthful like your oven, anyway.

Focus on the Family on Moody Broadcasting is on Saturday evening at 9:30 p.m. The conclusion of Corrie Ten Boom's story The Hiding Place will air Aug. 18, last of a three part series.
