Fire almost claims mobile home

MOSES LAKE - A structure fire nearly decimated a mobile home Monday evening around 6 p.m.

Grant County Fire District No. 5 Captain Travis Svilar said Tuesday they were dispatched to the 9900 block of Maple Drive Northeast to battle a mobile home that was spewing flames and smoke.

"On my arrival, I had grey smoke from two sides of the building and flames visible from one side," he said.

Once fire crews got inside, they were able to contain the fire to the living room and kitchen areas.

The blaze started in the kitchen, where oil was left cooking on a stovetop, Svilar said. None of the five residents were home at the time.

Svilar said crews were able to close bedroom doors, salvaging most of the residents' personal belongings, such as electronics and clothing.

One household pet died in the fire.
