Three-car wreck blocks Highway 17
MOSES LAKE - A three-car pile-up blocked traffic on state Highway 17 for a brief time Sunday afternoon.
Filipp P. Shaporda, 20, of Moses Lake, allegedly caused the chain reaction wreck around 3 p.m. when his 2002 Mercedes 430 hit another vehicle at the intersection of the highway and Patton Boulevard in Moses Lake.
Pilar Garza, 62, also of Moses Lake, was driving the middle vehicle. According to the Washington State Patrol, the 2002 Jeep Liberty she was driving rolled on its side before striking a 2008 Subaru Outback.
Margaret L. Angell, 59, of Moses Lake, was the driver of the Outback. She wasn't hurt..
Shaporda then hit Garza a second time as her vehicle was coming out of a spin.
Garza's vehicle then crossed the center line before coming to rest. Both lanes of traffic were blocked for at least an hour, a patrol spokeswoman said.
Angell and Shaporda came to rest on the southbound shoulder.
Garza was transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. Shaporda was also injured but refused medical aid, the patrol said.
All three vehicles sustained damage, and were either towed or driven away from the scene.
