EPHRATA - Citing ongoing health concerns, Royal City farmer Randy Allred has resigned from the Grant County PUD commission, effective Nov. 1.

The PUD has begun seeking a replacement to fill Allred's term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2014. Applicants must represent the southwester Grant County area Allred has served.

"I regret not being able to fulfill my term and would like to thank all those who supported me in my time at Grant PUD," Allred told the commission.

A Royal City resident for nearly 50 years, Allred has served as commissioner for the portion of Grant County known as District 3 since 2003.

Allred sat on numerous committees, including the PUD's financial management oversight committee, facilities master planning committee, the Washington PUD Association and Energy Northwest boards.

"Randy's dedication to public power has had a direct benefit to the customers of our county for nearly 10 years. During that time, I have had the pleasure of working with him and consider him a genuine public servant," Commission President Tom Flint said.

The vacant position on the five-member board represents District 3, which covers Mattawa, Quincy, George, Royal City and rural areas west of Moses Lake.

An individual interested in the nonpartisan position must be a registered voter in the District 3 boundary and qualified to hold elective office under the laws of the State of Washington.

Anyone interested in this position is encouraged to submit a letter of interest and resume to the Grant PUD Board of Commissioners by sending it to: Grant County PUD, P.O. Box 878 Ephrata, WA 98823 by no later than 5 p.m. on Sept. 14, 2012.

Applicants must provide a statement of qualifications, pertinent education, experiences and reasons for seeking appointment as Grant PUD Commissioner.

Commissioners typically attend two business meetings as well as other planning workshops as necessary each month. Interested individuals can view the governance policy for additional details.

According to state law, commissioners must appoint a replacement to the position and plan to fill the appointment by November.
