Miriam Clark was born December 11, 1916 in Yuma, Colorado. The fifth child, of ten, of the late Carl and Jesse (Dilsaver) Clark. As a young girl, she and her family of five sisters and four brothers moved in covered wagons and a Model T Ford to Chama, New Mexico, where she lived and graduated with seven other women from a high school in nearby Tia Maria, New Mexico. She was a school teacher in a one room school house for a short time. She was married to Ray M. Smith on December 23, 1937 in Park View, New Mexico. During the war years, while her husband was serving, Miriam worked in Los Alamos, New Mexico. In 1955, after living in Santa Fe, New Mexico for five years, she, her husband, Ray, and their 2 sons, Carl and Michael, moved to Moses Lake Washington to a farm they purchased in Block 41. They thoroughly enjoyed living and working on the farm until their retirement in 1980. Miriam and Ray continued to live on the farm during their retirement years. After Ray's passing in 1992 Miriam stayed at their home on the farm until May of 2012 when she moved into Sand Ridge Care Home, an assisted living residence in Moses Lake, where she resided until her passing.

She is survived by her sister Florence Beach, her two sons and their wives, Michael and Cheryl Smith of Germantown, MD, Carl Smith and Gail Rand of Moses Lake, her three granddaughters Whitney Smith, Brena Smith, and Michelle Rand. She is also preceded in death by her husband Ray Smith of over 54 years, and her eight brothers and sisters.
