Reader unhappy with "Women in Business" feature

| August 10, 2012 6:00 AM

Does anyone else see something bit wrong with the CBH feature, "Women in Business - Celebrating Business Women in the Columbia Basin"? The existence of this piece implies something special or noteworthy about the fact that a female, in particular, holds a job or management position.

It is illustrated with the iconic image from the poster which came to be known as "Rosie the Riveter." This was used during World War II to boost the morale of workers in factories which produced munitions and other supplies for the war effort. It was not a "female empowerment" statement.

At the very least, CBH could start running an accompanying piece called "Men in Business - Celebrating Business Men in the Columbia Basin".
