Grant LaMar Bowman

| August 9, 2012 6:00 AM

Grant LaMar Bowman, 83, of Quincy, concluded his mortal journey on August 1, 2012, with LoRene, his sweetheart of 65 years, by his side.

He was born on July 10, 1929, in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, the third son of Alton and Lela Bowman.

A lifetime farmer, Grant grew up working the land on various farms in Lava, including the family homestead on the outskirts of the small Idaho town.

Grant married Mary LoRene Potter on July 23, 1947, in Lava Hot Springs. Their marriage was sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Utah (LDS) Temple. They continued to live on the farm in Lava until the fall of '47; once the crops were in they moved to Pocatello where Grant got his first paying job working for the railroad.

In 1956, they moved to Washington State and farmed in Connell until they settled on their homestead in Quincy in 1960. Grant and LoRene were richly blessed in their family with five wonderful children; Alan, Steven, Peggy, Brent and Julie.

Grant served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life, giving freely of his time and talents in service to those around him. He officially served as a Gospel Doctrine Teacher, in the Sunday School Presidency, in the Young Men's Organization, a counselor in the Bishopric, High Councilor, a Temple worker and a dedicated home teacher.

Unofficially, he went about quietly, doing good and lifting those who needed a lift, and always with a twinkle in his eye and a sly, emerging grin on his face.

Grant was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His greatest joy was spending time with his family; he will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife Mary LoRene Bowman of Quincy, children, Alan (Sue) Bowman and Brent Bowman all of Quincy, Julie (Pete) VanKomen of Ellensburg, son-in-law Michael (Ellen) Jones of Bozeman, MT, brothers, Larry (Connie) Bowman of Holly Lake Ranch, TX, Bruce (Diane) Bowman of Nampa, ID, sister, Karen (Don) Waycaster of Salt Lake City, UT, sister-in-law, Donna Bowman of Pocatello ID, 22 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren.

Grant was preceded in death by his parents, son, Steven, daughter, Peggy Jones, granddaughter, Staci Vickery, brothers, A. Leon, Seldon and Lynn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Quincy chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A viewing will be held at the church prior to the service from 9:00-9:45 A.M. Interment services will follow at the Quincy Valley Cemetery.
