Facilities lean toward construction bond

| August 9, 2012 6:05 AM

ROYAL CITY - The 30 or so participants at the facilities meeting of July 31 are leaning toward asking for a new school construction bond election in February, according to Royal Schools Superintendent Rose Search.

However, discussions will continue. There will be a new facilities meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school library.

District staff will bring cost information of different building ideas to that meeting. So far, the leading option is to expand the fifth-grade POD into an intermediate school.

That project would add 230 student slots to the overall capacity of the district. The new school would add fourth grade and sixth grade to the fifth grade for a total of 360 students.

Moving fourth and sixth grades would ease crowding at the elementary school and the middle school.
