Marijuana found, arrest made after fire by Ephrata

| August 5, 2012 6:00 AM

EPHRATA - July 25 was not a good day for a young man by the name of John Lucas of the 10000 block of Neppel Road between Ephrata and Moses Lake.

Lucas, 27, was injured in a house fire. Then he was arrested and taken to jail, after the discovery of a marijuana grow at the same place.

After receiving treatment for his injuries at Samaritan Hospital, Lucas was taken to Grant County Jail.

Grant County Deputies and Grant County Fire District No. 5 fire and rescue personnel were dispatched to a fully engulfed mobile home fire at the location at about 11 a.m.

The mobile home appeared to be a complete loss upon arrival. A male subject who lived in the home, identified as Jonathan Lucas, was found on the ground near the burning home. He appeared to have minor burns and was transported to Samaritan Hospital.

While securing the scene and assisting fire units, deputies located a small marijuana grow behind the residence near some small trees, and the plants were seized as evidence.

Lucas was found to have a felony arrest warrant. An investigation was launched.

The cause of the fire is unknown as of Sunday, and the Grant County fire marshal's Office is investigating.
