Midway school suspect arrested at scene

MOSES LAKE - A Soap Lake man was arraigned Monday on second-degree burglary charges after he allegedly broke into classrooms at Midway Elementary early Sunday morning.

Richard W. Cheromiah, 28, of Soap Lake, allegedly broke into three portable classrooms at the school, 502 South C St. He also attempted to break into two others, according to information released by the Moses Lake Police Department. The incident occurred about 4 a.m. Sunday.

Cheromiah was still on the scene when officers arrived and allegedly tried to flee, and tried to get away when officers caught him. He was arraigned on three counts of second degree burglary, two counts of attempted second-degree burglary, one count of obstructing law enforcement, one count of third-degree malicious mischief, one count of making false statements to law enforcement officers and one count of third-degree theft.

Cheromiah was treated at the Moses Lake Police Department for minor cuts to his face.
