Warden Cougars softball rolls past Soap Lake

WARDEN  - Warden's Brylee Whitney threw a no-hitter and struck out eight batters as the Cougars shutout Soap Lake 26-0.

Warden jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The team scored five runs in the second, eight in the third and 10 in the bottom of the fourth inning to win in a cakewalk as the five inning 10-run rule came into play.

Bianca Hernandez had one of several hot bats for the Cougars going 4-for-4 at the plate with a triple. Iris Rodriguez had three hits in three at bats with a triple, Lexy Pruneda was 3-for-4, Domineke Rincon-Seal had two hits in two plate appearances with a dinger, and Haley Yamane finished 2-for-2 with a double.

The team had 17 hits in the game. The Eagles committed seven errors in the contest. The win for Warden improves the Cougars to 8-0 in league play and 11-2 overall.

"We started off kind of slow and the credit has to go to their pitcher Dionne Ramm. She threw well and their catcher made some great plays," coach Wes Richins said. "I am pleased with the progress Whitney is making. She hit her spots well and took control of the game.  We have been working on becoming more solid on defense, and today it showed up pretty big."

Warden hit the road today to take on Soap Lake in doubleheader action. The team hosts Kittitas Tuesday, then ends the regular season on the road at Kittitas May 5.
