Veterans' memorial scheduled for Thursday
EPHRATA - About 50 veterans from across Grant County are receiving funeral services in Ephrata on Thursday.
The Washington State Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team is holding a veterans' memorial service starting at 1 p.m. at the Grant County Courthouse, located at 35 C St. NW in Ephrata. The team will be joined by a color guard from the Moses Lake and Ephrata American Legion posts.
The team is traveling through central Washington performing the services after finding a number of veterans didn't receive funeral honors, Staff Sgt. Andrea Wysock said at a similar event held in Ephrata in January. The state provided a list of veterans to the team divided by city.
"It's our resolve to render professional military honors to veterans of all branches residing in Grant County who have not yet received the honors they are entitled to," according to the team. "Please come and show your support to the fallen veterans."
The ceremony included a flag-folding ceremony, taps and a 21-gun salute. Each of the names was read, followed by ringing a bell and a moment of silence for each person, she said.
The group expects to honor the following veterans: Perry M. Stevens, Donald E. Spaulding, Ronald C. Olsen, Robert L. Longston, Thomas H. Phinney, Billy R. Huntwork, Carl F.W. Weber, Robert G.
