Boys track takes fifth at invite
Moses Lake MLHS Chiefs Track
HERMISTON - The Chiefs traveled to Hermiston Saturday to take part in the 27th annual Kiwanis Invitational and came away with a fifth place finish out of 11 teams that participated in the event.
Moses Lake tallied 64 points. First place Kamiakan had 167.
"The day was a very hot," coach Kevin Whittall said. "But some of our athletes were able to set PR's."
Some performances worthy of note include a first place tie in the pole vault by Cameron Law who cleared 13'6". Jared Crowell took third in the triple jump with a leap of 40'9" and a first place finish in the 800 meters by Lowell Kirkwood who recorded a time of 2:01.35.
"That was the most exciting race of the day," Whittall said. "It went back in forth until Lowell pulled away at the end."
Michael Sheremet finished third overall in the 3K steeplechase with a time of 10:48.33, and Dustin Garcia (11:15.14) took sixth. Parker Johnson came in fifth (11.48) in the 100 meter dash, and Malcom Ransom placed sixth in the 200 meter with a time of 23.65.
Justin Johnson turned a fifth-place finish (9:51.65) in the 3000 meter race, and teammate Alek Schweisow was hot on his heels, taking sixth with a time of 9:52.40.
Moses Lake is back on the track Thursday when the team travels to Davis to face the Cadets, Wenatchee and Eisenhower on CBBN action.
