Soap Lake Eagles devoured by Cougars
SOAP LAKE - The Eagles baseball team suffered two lopsided losses to White Swan at home Saturday. Soap Lake lost game one 10-0, and game two 18-4.
The first game of the twin bill was halted after the 10-run rule went onto effect after five innings were in the book.
White Swan nearly pulled off a perfect game as the Cougars no-hit the Eagles, but gave up one error while fanning nine Soap Lake batters. The Cougars scored 10 runs off six hits. TheĀ Eagles pitchers gave up eight base on balls. Soap Lake committed three errors in the loss.
The second game of the doubleheader was a bit more competitive ... at least in the first couple of innings that is. The Eagles got out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning of play. White Swan tied the game 1-1 with a run in the top of the second.
The Cougars blew the game open 7-1 with six runs in the top of the third inning.
The Eagles got a run back in their half of the third, but White Swan added one in the fourth and four in the sixth to take a commanding 12-2 lead. Soap Lake scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to make a run, 12-4.
The Cougars weren't done however, as they racked up another four runs in the top of the seventh to win with ease.
White Swan scored 18 runs off 14 hits. The Eagles had four errors in the game. Jordan Korolak took the loss for Soap Lake. The two defeats drop The Eagles to 3-6 in league play.
"We are a very young team (catcher is an eighth grader) that's playing really tight right now and worrying about making mistakes," coach Tom Beierman said. "We need to work hard on our defense in practice and will try out people at different positions to see where we can be successful."
The Eagles are back on the field Tuesday when they take to the road for a game against Warden. The Eagles host Warden in doubleheader action Friday. The first game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
