Camiel Bruneel is 'Distinguished Young Woman'

MOSES LAKE - Camiel Bruneel is Moses Lake's new Distinguished Young Woman.
Bruneel was crowned Saturday night, along with first finalist Maddison Cloyd and second finalist Sarah Law.
Six young women vied for the title and the chance to win scholarships through the Distinguished Young Women program. In addition to the three winners, the contestants were Zhané Serrano, Allison Banda and Tristin Ebel.
"It just feels amazing to be able to have all that hard work pay off," Bruneel said backstage after the event. "It just feels so amazing, also ... having friends and family surrounding me and supporting me so much."
"I'm just really excited," said Law. "It's been so much fun in the practices, getting to know all the girls, and I'm really excited for all the parades we get to be in and for new friends we'll get to make ... and that I have the honor of being in the court."
"This is shocking," said Cloyd. "I didn't expect to get anything, so I'm just really thankful that this is a great group of girls and I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to do this with."
Bruneel won the community outreach award, scholastic award, judges interview award, self expression award, talent award and fitness award.
Serrano won the Distinguished Spirit award.
The Distinguished Young Woman program, formerly known as the Junior Miss program, was founded in 1958 in Mobile, Ala. It is the largest and oldest national scholarship program for high school girls.
