Chiefs baseball drops two to Walla Walla

MOSES LAKE - Try as they might, the Chiefs are yet to win a game in Big Nine league play as they lost both games of a twin bill Tuesday.

This time it was to the Blue Devils from Walla Walla.

It's not as if the team lacks effort or talent to beat their opponents as they have scored enough runs in each game to produces some victories.

But it's the mental mistakes that have been the teams down fall this season as Moses Lake committed seven errors in the two ball games.

Game one of the doubleheader saw Walla Walla jump out to a 3-0 in the teams first at bat. Moses Lake got a run back in the bottom of the second inning to close the gap to 3-1.

The Blue Devils put two more runs on the board in the top of the third to stretch the lead to 5-1, but Chiefs answered back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to make a game of it 5-3.

Walla Walla added a run in the top of the fourth and two in the top of the sixth to race out front 8-3.

The Chiefs put a run on the scoreboard in their half of the inning, but that was all the offensive production for the home team as they lost the game by four runs.

Moses Lake out hit the Blue Devils 10 to seven, but three errors was the Chiefs undoing.

Game two of the doubleheader saw the Chiefs get off to a quick start as Moses Lake took a 4-0 lead after the first inning of play.

Walla Walla came storming back with eight of its 10 runs in the top of the second to double the home team 8-4. The Chiefs got one run back in the bottom of the third and two in the bottom of the fourth to get within a run, 7-6 and put a scare into the Blue Devils.

But Walla Walla added a run in the top of the fifth and seventh innings to stretch the lead to 10-7 for the come from behind win.

The Chiefs out hit the Blue Devils again, but four errors by Moses Lake allowed Walla Walla the opportunity to sweep the twin bill.

Hector Zavala was tagged with the loss for the Chiefs. The two losses drops Moses Lake to 0-8 in league play and 4-12 overall.

The Chiefs are back on the diamond Tuesday when they travel to Eisenhower to take on the Cadets (0-8) who are also winless in CBBN action.
