The Fishin' Magician: Lakes near Rock Island

Anglers that like to fish for trout in our area lakes, and don't want to wait until the end of April should consider trying the lakes near Rock Island. Three of the lakes down there have already received good plants of larger than usual rainbow and with the recent warm weather would be great places to try your luck.

The three lakes that are loaded with rainbow include Big Bow, Hammond and Putters. Each of the lakes was stocked with over 2,700 rainbow and all the fish were in the new target weight of three to the pound. Big Bow offers pretty good shore access at the west end and there is a rough boat launch at the opposite end.

No gas engines are allowed on the lake and many cruise it with their electric bow mounted motors. Big Bow is also known for very good fishing for largemouth bass. Hammond and Putters are also good prospects for bank anglers. Pit Pond, the closest to the town of Rock Island is a Juvenile Pond, and can only be fished by anglers under the age of 15.

These lakes are all just a dozen miles south of East Wenatchee and would be great places to tune up for the opening weekend of trout season.
