GRANDVIEW - The Huskies tennis teams took to the pavement to match up with the Grandview Greyhounds in CWAC competition Saturday. The long trip home was a pleasant ride as both the boys and girls teams were victorious wining by identical 3-2 scores.

The girls got off on the right foot as they won their first three matches. The No. 1 singles Amelia Roylance defeated Hannah Grow in two sets, 6-0, 6-3. Keesten Anderson, Othello's No. 2 singles beat Brianna Moreno 6-2, 6-1, and the No. 1 doubles team of Yanitta and Jocelyn Cantu turned back Sadie Wyatt and Victoria Chambers 7-5, 6-1.

Girls

The two Huskies losses came at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles as Katrina Montemayor and Bethany Vargas lost to Gabby Avvalos and Karissa Carpenter, 1-5, 5-6, and Christina Murillo and Aracei Flores dropped their match to Joanna Sanche and Taylor Hamm 6-6 ,(0-7), 6-6, (5-7).

The win over the Greyhounds improves Othello to 1-1 in league play and 1-4 overall.

"Amelia, our No. 1 singles is continuing to get comfortable at the singles position. She was able to use her strong serve, mix in chips and move her opponent. And Keesten (No. 2 singles) has been playing well. She has been very consistent and been able to rally enough to make her opponent make the mistakes," coach Robert Pruneda said. "The girls No. 1 doubles won but played flat. They have not played like the way I expect from them. Katrina and Bethaney had a tough match and were unable to be consistent enough to win.  And Araceli and Christina lost a heart breaker in two sets. Both sets were 6-6, so they went into a tie breaker. It's hard for them to play well together because they are not partners."

Boys

The boys singles split their matches with Grandview. No. 1 singles Michael Carlton downed Jose Ramos 6-1, 6-4. Jacob Suarez, Othello's No. 2 singles took Fernando Lujan to three sets before losing his match 6-2, 2-6, 2-6.

The Huskies No. 1 doubles team of Ben Taff and Alec Montemayor had a tough time with the Greyhounds Steven Ramirez and Fernando Lujan, losing in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 3-6. Othello bounced back with a win from the No. 2 doubles Austin Roylance and Gabe Harris who defeated Marcus Morlaes and Chris Galvan 6-1, 6-1.

The last boys match of the day saw the Huskies No. 3 doubles Andrew Logan and Marty Garza turn back their opponents 6-4,6-4.

Othello was back on the courts in Toppenish Monday, but the results of the match were not available at press time.
