Small fairs eligible for capital budget funds
OLYMPIA – Gov. Christine Gregoire has signed a bill into law that will extend opportunities to non-profit agriculture fairs for capital budget grant funding.
The measure was sponsored by 13th District Rep. Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake.
House Bill 2356 will allow smaller agriculture fairs to apply for grants to make important health and safety upgrades. The 2011-13 capital budget as passed last year includes $1 million for health and safety grants to agricultural fairs.
“It is important to help more agricultural fairs provide an opportunity for the public to understand agricultural traditions and industry,” Warnick said. “This bill allows more fairs to compete for this funding, and it’s done within existing capital budget appropriations.”
Warnick has long been involved on the Grant County Fair Board.
