DOWNTOWN TREES

| April 13, 2012 6:00 AM

Reader concerned about the cost

I was absolutely shocked when I read that it cost the city $4,500 per tree to put downtown. With prices so high and many people living from day-to-day, I would think if the city had that much money to waste, why not lower the prices on the water and sewer and give the citizens a break? Our sewer is twice as high as when we first hooked up to the city and then to see them use the money so foolishly. We were by Miller's one day last fall and the trees were out from there to the corner with 2-3 flower pots on the street. That looked so clean and pretty. The trees on west Broadway are hideous. The seed pods fall on the street and sidewalk and they grow into the city lamps which I think are pretty. Come Christmas time the wreathes, which should be on the lap, are wrapped up in the tree. The new trees are not pretty and will do the same. Why not cut them off at ground level and a planter there? Give the rest of the trees to the parks. Thank you, Dr. Curnell, for questioning the cost. We need more people like you on the council. Keep up the good work. Not to mention that stupid roundabout they have at city hall. That was sure kept quiet. Why don't you try to help the Moses Lake people by lowering their fees? Think about it.
