YAKIMA - Big Bend Community College (BBCC) hit the pavement Wednesday looking to steal a couple of road wins from Yakima Valley Community. But a split of the doubleheader was all they could manage as the Vikings took game one 8-6, but lost the nightcap 11-1.

Game one

The Vikings jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Yaks narrowed the gap to 4-1 win a run in their half of the frame.

Neither team scored in the second inning, but BBCC hung two more runs on the board in the top of the third to go up 6-1.

The score held up through the sixth inning until the Vikings added a run in the top of the seventh to increase their lead to 7-1.

YVCC came storming back in the bottom half of the inning with five runs to close within one, 7-6. BBCC put one more run on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh, but the Yaks were unable to answer and dropped the game.

The Vikings pounded out 13 hits in the contest. Kailen Bickler was the big stick for BBCC going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Danny Greenway got the win for the Vikings, pitching six innings, giving up four hits, two runs and fanning five.  Jacob Vestch took the loss for the Yaks.

Game two

The second of the twin bill was a horse of a different color as the Vikings bats feel silent. Unlike game one when BBCC had a bakers dozen, the team was limited to one hit.

YVCC scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. The Vikings got one back in the top of the fifth to tie it 1-1. But that was all the offensive production by BBCC.

The Yaks got a run in their half of the inning, another run in the sixth, two in the seventh and six in the eighth inning to win in a cakewalk.

Cody Johns was tagged with the loss for the Vikings. Dan Eck got the win for YVCC.

BBCC stands at 5-5 in league play after the split and 16-6 overall. The Vikings are back in action Saturday when the host a doubleheader against Wenatchee Valley Community College. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
