Boys and girls track have good outing
Moses Lake MLHS Chiefs Track
YAKIMA - Edward Ransom took first (11.48) in the 100 meter dash, and sister Diamond finished third (13.25) to help lead the Chiefs to a strong showing at the 86th annual Davis Invite Saturday.
Twenty team competed in the event at Zaepfel Stadium, however, no team scores were available at press time.
"The girls had an awesome meet," coach Nicki Weiland said. "They continue to impress and get better and better each time out."
Several Chiefs turned in outstanding performances on the day. As mentioned, Diamond Ransom took third in the 100 meters (13.25). Caylah Lunning placed second in the 200 meters (26.76), and London Cleverly finished third in the 400 with a time of 1:01.63. Freshman Alysha Overland took first in the 300 hurdles (46.56), and the 4x100 relay team of Kayla Grigg, Ransom, Overland and Lunning, took first in the event, finishing just .001 of a second (50.05) off the Moses Lake High School record they set earlier in the season.
The Chiefs 4x200 relay team of Cleverly, Lunning, Overland and Ransom finished first with a time of 1:47.69, and the 4x400 team of Selina Koon, Arlena Hannan, Casci Carpenter and Cleverly placed fourth (4:23.76) in the event.
The sprint team of Carpenter, Hannan, Stephanie Overland and Megan Roughan took first with a time of 5:58.83. Paige Dyer set a personal best in the Javelin with a throw of 113'1" which was good enough for second place. Lunning turned in another fine effort for the second meet in a row in the long jump with a leap of 17'3.25" to take second. Kim Bakker took fourth in the event with a jump of 16' 2".
Grigg finished third (32'9") in the triple jump, and Bakker took fourth (32'7").
Boys
Edward Ransom took first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.48. Brooks Milbrandt (11.84) finished fifth. It was Lowell Kirkwood placing sixth in the 800 meters with a personal best of 2:03.21. Justin Johnson (10:21.59) finished seventh in the 3200 meters.
Cameron Ballard (5'8") took fourth in the high jump, and Cameron Law placed third in the pole vault, clearing 12' 6". And Jared Crowell took second in the long jump (19'11.75") and the triple jump with a leap of 40'.
The Chiefs are back on the track Saturday when the split the varsity squads for meets at Pasco and Cheney.
