EPHRATA - Grant County Sheriff's Deputy Mike Earney was selected as deputy sheriff of the year by the Grant County Deputy Sheriff's Association.

Earney received the award at the association's awards dinner March 10.

Earney was nominated by Sgt. Mark Biallas. In his nomination letter, Biallas said Earney's "work ethic far exceeds what is expected of him," and his "determination to work every case to the fullest of his ability" has led to many solved cases.

Before joining the GCSO, Earney served as a police officer for the City of Warden.
