LIVESTOCK SHOW
Reader thanks organizers
Wow, finally a heifer and steer prospect show held in the state of Washington. I have been wanting to see one in this state for 33 years, since all the states around us like Idaho, Montana, Utah and Oregon all have them and have had for a long time. This is an excellent show for kids in the spring and early summer who like animals and don't do sports. It is such a long time for kids who purchase their fair steers in the fall of one year and don't get to participate in anything until the next late summer or early fall.
This one was held on the back of the North Central Jr. Livestock Show held this last weekend. Congratulations to the beef superintendents, Jeff Mertes, Debbie and Randy Kulm for organizing and running it without much help from the junior livestock show office. A special thank you needs to go to these three people for the time and effort put forth to get the show off and running. Thank you to all the people who gave monetary support, without it, this show would not have happened. And finally, a special thanks to all the exhibitors who came to exhibit (some from far away). The judges, Duane Lathim and Steve Jachetta, did an excellent job in placing the animals in their classes.
My hope is that we can learn, build, and grow from this first show and maybe even someday have the prospect show by itself. Thanks again to everyone who helped make this first prospect show a success.
