Warden soccer blanks Oroville

OROVILLE - Hector Camacho had four first half goals, and Oswaldo Ramirez added two more to lead Warden to an 8-0 road win over Oroville Saturday.

The victory improves the Cougars to 2-0 in the Central Washington 2B Conference and 4-1 overall.

"Hector had a great game," coach Ed Aguilar said. "He's coming back from an ankle injury that slowed him down for the last couple games."

Camacho got Warden on the scoreboard with his first goal off an assist by Orlando Alba seven minutes into the contest to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

The two hooked up again at the 10 and 15 minute-marks to put Warden up 3-0.

And finding little resistance from the Hornets, the rout was on as Ramirez out ran all defenders to deliver the ball unassisted in the back of the net at the 20th minute of the game for the Cougars fourth goal of the match.

Camacho scored his fourth goal of the game off and assist by Carlos Figueroa at the 30 minute-mark to increase Warden's lead to 5-0.

Ramirez made it 6-0 with his second goal (unassisted) of the half five minutes later. The Cougars Elias Valencia rounded out the scoring in the first 40 minutes of play with a goal (Figueroa) to push the score to 7-0.

The eighth and final score of the game by Alba off Figueroa's second assist, came 11 minutes into the second half of action.

"I was really happy with the way the team performed today. Orlando Alba and Carlos (Figueroa) my midfielders played a very good game. Orlando had three assists and one goal and Carlos had three assists," Aguilar said. " Elias (Valencia) scored his eighth goal of the season, and my central defender Fernando Landeros played a very good game keeping Oroville attackers out of scoring position."

The Cougars had 12 shots on frame to the Hornets six.

Osbaldo Alba Warden's keeper had two saves and recorded his third shutout of the season.

The Cougars are back in action Thursday when the team host Royal in a non-league match that is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m.
