Warden boys golf takes first at Sun Tides
YAKIMA - It was a wet rainy day at Sun Tides Thursday, but the Cougars didn't let it effect their play.
Warden finished at the head of the pack with a team score of 348, which was 16 strokes better than the nearest competitor.
Riverside Christian turned in a 364, Naches as four strokes back with 368, and host Highland brung up the rear with 433 team points.
Caleb Caballero, who shot 80, and was the medalist of the day, led the way for Warden.
Trent Bates was just five strokes off the pace with 85. Conrad Ruge carded 89, Connor Haynes turned in a 94, Jordan Manville had a 108, and Wyatt Newhouse finished with 127.
"We scored our best round of the year thus far," coach Steve Tolley said. "Bates, Ruge, and Caballero are returning State participants. Caleb made the cut at state last year and in the rain at Sun Tides. He started to show some of his abilities by hitting fairways and greens and thereby becoming medalist for the first time this year. The team seemed to be excited about scoring better than they had thus far this year and to do it in the rain added even more pleasure to the win."
Warden is back on the links April 10 when the team hosts Roosevelt, Waterville, and CBSS/MLCA at Sage Hills.
