Wahluke soccer girls drop three
MATTAWA - The Wahluke High School soccer girls have gotten off to a slow start, losing three matches, but coach Arthur DeVictoria is not panicking.
"We have changed players around to help us with our attack," he said.
Alondra Celestino, a sophomore who played forward last year, has been moved to mid-field, and she has responded positively.
"We are able to use her energy to control the tempo of the game," DeVictoria said.
The Warriors have played fairly well on defense. It is the offense that is lacking. The scores were 2-0 against Mabton, 4-0 against Royal and 4-0 against Kiona-Benton.
The good news is that they were all non-league contests. So are the next two, today at Cle Elum and Saturday at home against Granger. The first league match will be against Ki-Be on Sept. 27.
DeVictoria noted the loss to Royal featured better defense than the 2-0 opening defeat. Royal was allowed only five shots.
That game also demonstrated a lack of punch. The Warriors possessed the ball a good amount of time but could not find the back of the net.
"We are working on turning this around, and I believe we have the girls to do so," De Victoria said.
