Quincy takes Royal girls in three squeakers

ROYAL CITY - If you look at Quincy's season-opening defeat of Royal in high school volleyball last week as one match, it was a 3-0 shutout.

But if you consider it three games, the Knights were as competitive as could be without winning. Quincy took the first game 25-23, the second game 26-24 and the third game 25-23.

"Good overall effort and enjoyable games to watch, great opening games," coach Paul Osulfka said.

"We learned a lot," he added. "We need to play with more confidence to finish out games. We will get back to the little things that will put us over the hump and win these types of games."

Lindsey Cristensen led at the net with 11 kills. Defensively, she had 15 digs. Moriah Cristensen went 13-for-14 in her serving, hit a couple of aces, had 13 digs and six kills.

Tahlia Ledezma had a big outing with 16-18 serving, 17 assists and seven digs. Ashlyn Allred went 12-13 serving, scored an ace and had nine digs. Madison Stakkeland had 14 digs.

"I feel good with the effort put forth by the girls," Osulfka said.
