ROYAL CITY - Kindergarten enrollment at the Red Rock Elementary School in Royal City has exploded, and one new teacher has been added.

Superintendent Rose Search reported last week that there are 147 kindergarteners. The school finished with 112 last year.

"This is the largest kindergarten class I know of since I've been here," Search said.

To keep class sizes in the 20-student range, one new kindergarten teacher was added. She is Trista Dixon, who attended Red Rock and Royal Middle Schools as a girl.

The Moses Lake native has an AA degree from Big Bend Community College. She graduated from Central Washington with a Bachelor's in education last year. She was substituting in the area before taking the Royal Schools assignment.

Search reported that things are going smoothly in the establishment of the district's pre-school at the United Methodist Church. She noted there are 60 students who will attend in two sessions.

Thirty students will attend two days of the week. Thirty will attend two other days, and there will be one day with no pre-school.

Search noted the 15-student special education pre-school remains at Red Rock Elementary.
