Royal Schools seek help with student safety

| September 1, 2011 6:00 AM

ROYAL CITY - Royal Schools Superintendent Rose Search is hoping parents will cooperate with a new vehicle traffic plan at the Royal Middle School.

The way things have been done until now, Search said, parents have been leaving children with one or two lanes of traffic to cross to get to the school.

"That's really dangerous," she said.

From now on, Search hopes, parents will turn immediately to the right after leaving Ahlers Road. The school wants them to drive to the traffic lane nearest to the administration building, turn left and proceed to a stop sign at the east end of the lot.

From there, parents will turn left and into the lane closest to the curb and sidewall. They will drop their children and head west back to Ahlers.

There will be signs to help parents find their way through the new route.

"I hope everybody cooperates," Search said. "It will be a lot safer for the kids."
