Tonia Farias

| October 29, 2011 3:00 AM

Tonia R. Farias, 70, longtime Moses Lake resident and lifelong Catholic was born into eternity on Tuesday, October 25, 2011.

She was born into life on April 5, 1941, in the beautiful countryside of the Mexican state of Michoacan. Never ready to conform, even at a very early age, Tonia took to helping her father tend to the crops and animals that provided the family of 12 with a livelihood.

As she grew, so did her conviction to help others. It was decided, however, that she was not to turn her life over to the service of the Church. So, she immediately began to put things into place for the purpose of getting to where ever it was that life awaited her. She saw opportunity in the world of commerce and quickly built her own retail shop from the ground up, relying solely on the determination and strength bestowed upon her from Heaven.

At the age of 24, with the proper paperwork in hand and a few dollars in her pocket, Tonia left everything she knew and everyone she loved behind in her voyage to the unfamiliar United States. Alone and with no particular destination, she ultimately made her home here in Moses Lake, Washington, where she would live the rest of her life. Much more can be spoken of about this wonderful woman - her generosity, her wisdom, and her absolutely loving heart; but, for now, let us just say that she will be missed.

Tonia is survived by her sons Anthony Mejia and Joel Rodriguez, from whom she has five grandchildren: Mateo, Pablo, Joaquin (Kini), Chalina, and Lilly.
