Royal slugs Highland
ROYAL CITY - "Finally, the big win we've been looking for," said coach Jens Jensen after his Royal girls defeated Highland, 5-0, in South Central 1A Conference volleyball last week.
But the Knights did not sustain their good fortune, dropping a 1-0 contest to Kiona-Benton two days later.
The difference, Jensen said, was that the Royal girls made good runs, found space, and the final ball was "dangerous" against Highland.
Royal had eight shots on goal and converted five. All three attempts in the first half found netting.
Gladys Meza and Cynthia Cid led the way with two goals each. Flor Araujo had one. There were three assists by Maria Garcia and one by Araujo.
Araujo and Garcia put the contest away early in the second half when the combined for a goal at 45:16 to make the score 3-0.
