Veterans Day event planned at Wahluke
MATTAWA - There will be six speakers representing the military when Wahluke High School celebrates its fourth annual Veterans Day Assembly on Monday, Nov. 7.
According to assembly organizer Jay Scott, site director of the 21st Century Program and a U.S. Navy veteran, the assembly for junior high and high school students will go from 10:20-11:30 a.m.
The assembly will start with a color guard presentation and the pledge of allegiance. There will be a static display and video presentation.
The speakers, all representing the U.S. Army, will be 1st Lt. David Beckwith, SFC Joseph Wysock, SSG Christoper Stewart, Sgt. Vincent Riel, CPL Matthew Rupp, SPC Scott Allan and PV2 Richard Brown.
There will be a slide show during the speeches as visual enhancement, according to SSG Stewart. Each soldier will give a five minute address about himself and what Veterans Day means to him.
Beckwith will be in charge of the detail. Wysock, Allan and Brown will be in the color guard.
"We will leave time for questions from the students," SSG Stewart said.
The Army's participation will be a change for the assembly. The Richland Veterans of Foreign Wars commander was the speaker the first three years.
"I wanted to bring in a younger generation of vets," Scott said. "This an educational opportunity for our kids."
