Warden soccer boots Oroville 8-2
WARDEN - The Warden Cougars took the sting out of the Oroville Hornets Saturday, beating the team 8-2 at home.
Warden, finding little resistance, scored three goals in the first 32 minutes of play. The first goal came from Johanna Burkholder at the 23rd- minute mark. The Cougars got another goal two minutes later from Brylee Whitney off an assist Taylor Edson.
Warden's third goal by Taylor Edson found the back of the box in 32nd minute of the match to take a 3-0 lead at halftime.
"The team is playing well and after losing to Manson last week in a shootout," coach Don Edison said. "It was nice to see them rebounded well against Oroville."
The Trojans scored the first two points of the second half. A goal by Megan Morales off an assist by Naomi Peters at the 37th minute and a breakaway goal by Peters in the 39th minute, closed the gap to 3-2 in favor of Warden.
The Cougars rung up five more goals in the last 30 minutes of play by Nicole Guerra (44th minute), Whitney (50th minute), Edson's second score at theÊ 55th minute, an own goal by Oroville atÊ 67th minute, and Edson's third goal to give her a hat trick at the 75th minute of action.
The win runs Warden's record to 11-1-1with two matches left in the regular season.
"We play both at home, one Tuesday against Liberty Bell, and Thursday against Bridgeport," Edson said. "If we win both, we will finish the season in first place and host a first round playoff game."
